About Tom Kates

I am an attorney living and practicing law in Holland, Michigan. For over twenty years I have engaged in the practice and business of law, primarily civil litigation. I enjoy writing, and over the past couple of years have greatly enjoyed following the blogs of several members of my family as well as a few of my attorney colleagues. Because the law is constantly changing as our society becomes more complex and diverse, I can think of perhaps no subject more ripe for online discourse than the goings on in our modern legal system. I take pride in being a part of our nation’s justice system which admittedly is not without its faults. But I continue to believe it is one of the best in the world. Quite often as I watch as my clients experience the trials (both literal and figurative) that come with navigating the legal system, I think to myself, “This would be worth writing about”.  Now I plan to do just that.
